SPAN 777 - Human and Digital Translation (3 units) Theory and practice of human and digital translation (English to Spanish and vice versa), including machine-aided translation and the role of emerging AI technologies in translating a wide variety of texts.

Student Learning Outcomes Upon completion of this course, students will be able to: 1. identify the main theoretical approaches to performing accurate translations. 2. identify key issues and concerns in translations performed by humans and machines. 3. demonstrate their competence in recognizing and addressing weaknesses that arise in machine-generated translations. 4. determine and analyze text genres, sub-genres, and their intended audiences, as well as the translation challenges associated with each. 5. demonstrate their grasp of translation principles by translating texts from English into Spanish and vice versa, with and without assistance from digital tools.
