GRI 725 - Seminar in Queer and Trans Studies

The graduate seminar in queer and trans studies offers an interdisciplinary forum to engage a dynamic and growing area of study in the humanities and social sciences. Students will read and analyze key works in the field, consider major themes and debates, and write an independent research essay. The course takes an intersectional approach to gender and sexuality as imbricated with structures of race, ethnicity, class, nation, citizenship, and other categories.

Student Learning Outcomes
Upon completion of this course, students will be able to:
1. articulate major concepts and theories in queer and trans studies and explain how they are applied in scholarship.
2. explain how queer and trans studies contributes to an intersectional analysis of gender, sexuality, race, ethnicity, class, and citizenship.
3. apply one or more major concepts or theories from queer and trans studies to their own research methods or interests.
