JOUR 492 - Media Effects: Theory, Research, & Application (3 units) CO13 Jour 492/692 explores the key theories, methods, and themes that inform the study of media effects. Students will engage in critical analysis of media content and its effects on society, identifying the complex ways in which media influences audiences at both the individual and group level. This class provides access to RSJ’s media effects lab, facilitating unique opportunities for students to explore physiological and cognitive responses to media content.

Student Learning Outcomes Upon completion of this course, students will be able to: 1. explain key theories and concepts in media effects scholarship. 2. evaluate how media content influences attitudes, beliefs, and behaviors of individuals and society. 3. apply theoretical frameworks and methodologies to contemporary media issues. 4. identify ethical considerations and responsibilities when conducting human subjects research. 5. design and conduct research related to media effects. 6. collect, analyze, and interpret data regarding audience responses to media stimuli.
