COM 365 - Food Communication (3 Units) This course investigates the symbolic and instrumental role of food in communication and communication about food and food-related topics to deepen understandings of identity, human relationships, politics, and sustainability.

Student Learning Outcomes Upon completion of this course, students will be able to: 1. critically examine how food shapes and reflects cultural identities, values, and traditions by exploring the scientific, historical, and sociocultural factors that influence food practices and their societal implications. 2. analyze how food is used as a narrative device in media (e.g. film, advertising, or social media). 3. analyze and compose their own food narratives, demonstrating an understanding of how personal and communal food histories are shaped by factors such as migration, access, and power dynamics. 4. demonstrate critical reading and comprehension skills connecting theoretical concepts to real-world examples.
