EDSP 740 - Policy & Advocacy in Disability & Education (3 units) The course provides an introduction to the role of advocacy in impacting policy in education and disability organizations at the local, state, and national levels. Students will learn how to take data from research and present it in formats typically used by policymakers.

Student Learning Outcomes Upon completion of this course, students will be able to: 1. explain how advocacy and analysis work together with people, processes, and politics to develop policy in a cyclical manner. 2. differentiate between a white paper and a policy brief and identify when each can be used beneficially. 3. write both a white paper and a policy brief on either a current educational issue or disability rights issue.
