PBH 437 - Climate Change and Human Health (3 units) CO13 Our changing climate has dramatic impacts on human health. Understanding what changes are occurring, how these changes impact human health, and how current and future strategies can help mitigate some of the impacts to human health is of paramount importance in the 21st century. The interdisciplinary course will explore climate change impacts on human health, public policies, mitigation strategies, and communication techniques that build solutions to these pressing human health challenges.
Maximum units a student may earn: 3
Prerequisite(s): General Education courses (CO1-CO3) completed; at least 3 courses from CO4-CO8 completed; Junior or Senior standing.
Grading Basis: Graded Units of Lecture: 3 Offered: Every Spring
Student Learning Outcomes Upon completion of this course, students will be able to: 1. explain the physical processes of climate change and how they influence climate and weather patterns. 2. analyze how climate change impacts human health at local, national, or global levels. 3. communicate climate-related health challenges and solutions effectively through writing and speaking. 4. apply research methods to investigate effects of climate change on human health. 5. integrate and synthesize Core knowledge to evaluate complex health impacts of climate change.
