BIOL 406 - Climate Change Physiology (3 units) This course investigates how climate change affects animal function in different environments. Animal responses to changing environmental conditions consider both plastic (behavioral or physiological responses within an animals lifespan) and genetic (evolutionary) responses of populations. This course combined understanding of animal physiology and evolution to predict how species will respond to climate change and evaluate potential mitigation strategies.
Maximum units a student may earn: 3
Prerequisite(s): BIOL 191A
Grading Basis: Graded Units of Lecture: 3 Offered: Every Fall
Student Learning Outcomes Upon completion of this course, students will be able to: 1. understand and communicate how specific climate changes may affect animal function. 2. discuss recent changes in climate and their potential effects on animal physiology and evolution. 3. apply understanding of animal physiology to recent examples of climate change effects on animal populations. 4. use their knowledge of animal physiology and evolution to predict how different species may respond to future climate change.
