NVAI 310 - AI Ethics (3 units) CO12 This course explores the ethical, social, and legal implications of AI use in professional and personal contexts. Students will learn the ethical frameworks needed to evaluate the real-world moral risks of AI in terms of anthropomorphism, autonomy, bias, fairness, privacy, and our humanity. Through conceptual readings, case studies, and interactive discussions, students will examine responsible AI principles and governance, developing the critical thinking skills needed to navigate AI ethically and effectively in any role.

Student Learning Outcomes Upon completion of this course, students will be able to: 1. explain key ethical ideas and how they apply to artificial intelligence. 2. analyze ethical considerations of AI in real-world applications to issues such as fairness, human relationships, privacy, and what it means to be a person. 3. identify potential biases in AI systems and propose mitigation strategies. 4. describe the principles of responsible AI governance. 5. evaluate existing regulations and frameworks guiding ethical AI use. 6. identify an AI-related ethical problem and justify a responsible course of action. 7. apply ethical principles to AI decisions in academic, professional, social, and personal situations.
