CAS 638 - Sexuality and Process Addictions

This course examines human sexuality and behavioral addictions, integrating theory with clinical practice. Students develop sex-positive counseling competencies and learn evidence-based assessment and treatment for gambling, internet/gaming, and sexual behavior disorders. Emphasis on ethical, culturally responsive interventions for clients with co-occurring concerns across diverse populations.

Student Learning Outcomes
Upon completion of this course, students will be able to:
1. synthesize and apply comprehensive knowledge of human sexuality development, expression, and diversity using sex-positive frameworks in clinical practice.
2. analyze and integrate neurobiological mechanisms underlying process addictions with clinical case conceptualization and treatment planning.
3. critically evaluate and implement evidence-based assessment and treatment approaches for clients with co-occurring sexuality and addictions concerns.
4. apply complex ethical decision-making frameworks and consultation processes when working with sexuality and addictions issues.
5. integrate advanced cultural competency and social justice principles in sexuality and addiction counseling practice.
