IS 450 - Introduction to Generative AI Development (3 units) This course provides a hands-on overview of artificial intelligence (AI) application development using Python and Large Language Model (LLM) tools. Students learn the foundational programming and API skills required to build and deploy AI-powered applications. Topics include Python programming essentials, web-based API integration, and basic OpenAI model utilization for generative AI and chatbot creation. The course emphasizes practical development through coding exercises, web integration, and iterative projects that connect AI concepts to real-world problem-solving.
Maximum units a student may earn: 3
Prerequisite(s): IS 350 or Registration in the Masters of Science in Information Systems (MSIS) Program
Grading Basis: Graded Units of Lecture: 3 Offered: Every Fall
Student Learning Outcomes Upon completion of this course, students will be able to: 1. apply programming and computational thinking skills to design and develop Python-based applications that integrate artificial intelligence (AI) capabilities. 2. design, construct, and evaluate generative AI chatbot systems by implementing and querying large language models (LLMs) using appropriate toolkits and frameworks. 3. employ fundamental programming concepts to analyze and create AI-driven solutions that address practical business or organizational challenges.
