ART 399 - Advanced Special Topics in Studio Art

This upper-division studio course offers an in-depth exploration of selected artistic processes, concepts, or themes. Students refine technical skills, expand their conceptual thinking, and develop a more independent studio practice. May be repeated when topic differs; Maximum 6 units.

Prerequisite(s): Declared major or minor in the Department of Art, Art History, and Design; Junior or Senior standing; at least two ART or GRC studio courses. (Or instructor permission.)

Student Learning Outcomes
Upon completion of this course, students will be able to:
1. demonstrate advanced technical proficiency and independent decision-making in the use of materials, methods, and processes relevant to the course focus.
2. integrate conceptual development, research, and critical inquiry to produce artwork that reflects a mature and coherent artistic intent.
3. critically analyze and evaluate artworks using discipline-appropriate vocabulary, historical and contemporary contexts, and informed critique strategies.
