HIST 783C - Historiography: The World before 1500 (3 units) Extensive readings in the literature of historical methods and a comprehensive survey of world history from the formation of advanced civilizations to 1500.

Student Learning Outcomes Upon completion of this course, students will be able to: 1. produce a historiographical essay analyzing major debates and methodological approaches in pre‑1500 world history. 2. identify and explain major themes across a range of global contexts. 3. critically analyze major secondary works and evaluate their contributions to historiography. 4. assess how historiographical approaches have changed over time.
