EE 647 - Fundamentals of Electrical Substation and Line Design (3 units) This course provides a comprehensive introduction to the engineering design of electrical substations and overhead transmission lines. Students will learn industry-standard practices for equipment selection, bus design, grounding systems, and structural modeling, all guided by relevant safety codes. The curriculum emphasizes practical application, culminating in hands-on experience with professional CAD tools for electrical system design.
Maximum units a student may earn: 3
Grading Basis: Graded Units of Lecture: 3 Offered: Every Fall
Student Learning Outcomes Upon completion of this course, students will be able to: 1. identify, formulate, and solve complex engineering problems by applying principles of engineering, science, and mathematics. 2. apply engineering design to produce solutions that meet specified needs with consideration of public health, safety, and welfare, as well as global, cultural, social, environmental, and economic factors. 3. acquire and apply new knowledge as needed, using appropriate learning strategies. 4. design and conduct experiments as well as analyze, interpret, apply, and disseminate the data in understanding of research methodology. 5. develop and conduct appropriate experimentation, analyze and interpret advanced smart grid data, and use engineering judgment to draw conclusions.
