GERONTOLOGY ACADEMIC PROGRAM (GAP)

A Nationally Recognized Program of Merit by the Academy for Gerontology in Higher Education

Gain a competitive edge in your academic, professional, and personal pursuits with a Gerontology Minor (18 credits) or Gerontology Certificate (24 credits). Your experience in this program will include interdisciplinary coursework and opportunities to engage with older adults and community professionals.

Gerontology, the interdisciplinary study of aging and older adults, offers students the opportunity to become aging informed in ways that will benefit any career path.

The Gerontology Academic Program focuses on the physical aspects of aging, as well as the mental, social and societal implications of aging. Students gain the tools to address practical, age-related issues within careers, supporting the increasing population of older adults.

As a GAP student, you develop valuable relationships with hands-on program faculty, enjoy course overlaps with various majors, satisfy specific silver core requirements, and strengthen your transcript for future employers and graduate school.

The Program of Merit designation by the Academy for Gerontology in Higher Education is a “stamp of approval” verifying the exceptional education available from the UNR Gerontology Academic Program.

With Nevada experiencing one of the fastest-growing older adult populations in the country, the demand for a more aging-informed workforce has never been more vital. Embrace the challenge and opportunity to meet the unique needs of older adults with GAP’s comprehensive training.
