Nevada Global

About Nevada Global

Nevada Global is a collaboration between the University of Nevada, Reno and Shorelight LLC.  Established in 2023, Nevada Global supports international students through the International/Graduate Direct process, Accelerator Programs, and the Intensive English Program (IEP).

International Direct / Graduate Direct

The International Direct / Graduate Direct process provides degree seeking (undergraduate or graduate) international students with enhanced skills and experiences to increase their chances of success at the University.  These students are fully matriculated, degree seeking UNR students and meet the same admissions requirements as direct entry students.

Accelerator Programs

Accelerator programs are non-degree granting programs that allow students to obtain English language proficiency, study skills, and academic credit such that students may matriculate to UNR with advanced standing (at the undergraduate level) or into graduate programs (at the graduate level).

At the undergraduate level this includes the extended accelerator program (EAP) and the academic accelerator program (AAP). Students are placed into either program based on GPA and English language proficiency level.  The Extended Accelerator Program is a three-semester program during which students can earn up to 27 credit hours transferable to an undergraduate degree.  The Academic Accelerator Program is a two-semester program during which students can earn up to 27 credit hours transferable to an undergraduate degree. Student may begin the program during Fall, Spring or summer terms.  Upon successful completion of the ESL program, student may apply to enter a degree seeking program with the Nevada Global program. If the student wishes to pursue students at another institution, they may be required meet their English specific English competency requirement for admissions.

At the graduate level this includes the Masters Accelerator Program (MAP) and the Advanced Masters Accelerator Program (AMAP). Students are placed into either program based on GPA and English language proficiency level.  The Masters Accelerator Program is a two-semester program during which students can earn up to 15-18 credit hours transferable to a graduate degree (dependent on program design).  The Advanced Masters Accelerator Program is a one-semester program, during which students can earn up to 6-9 credit hours transferable to a graduate degree.  After completion of the AMAP, students continue into Graduate Direct.

Intensive English Program (IEP)

The Intensive English Program (IEP) provides rigorous, student-centered English language instruction that fully prepares international students to succeed in their university studies.  It creates a welcoming environment for both learning and living in a new culture, where all feel safe and supported.  The IEP is dedicated to maintaining best practices in the field of TESOL instruction (Teaching English to Speakers of Other Languages) and building sustainable educational programs through regular review and improvement.
