For students majoring in a foreign language, the department strongly recommends a minor in a second foreign language. Students majoring in a foreign language or in another field may minor in foreign languages and literatures by completing one of the following:

For a Japanese minor, 20 units are required, 14 of which must be numbered 300 - 499. For a French or Spanish minor, 21 units are required. For French 15 units must be numbered 300 - 499 and for Spanish 18 units must be numbered 300 - 499. Students majoring in Spanish may minor in Spanish Translation, but they cannot apply more than 9 of the 20 units completed for the minor to the major. Six of the units for these minors must be completed on the University of Nevada, Reno campus.

• SPAN 412 - Advanced Translation (3 units)
• SPAN 422 - Special Topics in Translation (3 units)

Language/Linguistics Component (5 units)

• SPAN 400 - Practicum in Spanish in the Community (2 units)

Culture Component (6 units)

• SPAN 350 - Introduction to the Study of Hispanic Literature (3 units)
