Students pursuing the master of arts degree must satisfy all graduate school requirements and specific departmental requirements. The completion of 31 credits is required, 18 of which must be at the 700-course level. One credit of comprehensive examination is required, but does not count towards the number of 700 level credits needed.
A thesis is required. Optional emphases for the thesis include: environmental archaeology, historical archaeology, cultural anthropology and ethnolinguistics.
The department administers the Historic Preservation Program and participates in the master of science degree in land use planning policy, described in the College of Science section of this catalog.
A limited number of teaching and research assistantships are offered on a competitive basis.
Master’s students are admitted to the program only in the fall semester. The departmental deadline for application is January 15th. The department website (www.unr.edu/cla/anthro) gives specific admission requirements and application guidelines.
