Students seeking the master of arts in teaching degree should read the Graduate School section of this catalog and the department’s Graduate Bulletin. The department requires that applicants hold a bachelor’s degree with a major or a 24-credit minor in history, education (history or social-studies emphasis), or a closely related discipline; and have a cumulative undergraduate grade-point average of 2.75. (The GRE exam is not required.) Applicants must have at least one year’s teaching experience or its equivalent at the primary and/or secondary level before the semester in which they seek to enter the M.A.T. program.
The M.A.T. degree requires 31 semester credits of course work, written comprehensive work (1 units) consisting of an examination and a teaching unit plan, and a final oral presentation. For further information, contact the department’s graduate advisor.
