The minimum credit requirements are:

• Formal core and advanced chemistry courses (21 units) *
• Electives (22 units) **

• Graduate Seminar (4 units)

• CHEM 789 - Graduate Seminar I (1 unit)
• CHEM 790 - Graduate Seminar II (1 unit)

• CHEM 795R - Comprehensive Examination (1 unit)

•  

• Dissertation (24 units)

• CHEM 799 - Dissertation (1 to 24 units)

Total Credits (72 units)

Note(s):

* 600 or 700-level formal classroom or laboratory courses, as specified by the Chemistry Department’s Graduate Study Guidelines and approved by the student’s advisory committee.

**Electives for the Ph.D. may include up to 14 credits of dissertation (CHEM 799 ) in addition to the 24 required credits. One credit of comprehensive examination is required and can be used to satisfy the 30 credits of required 700-level course work.
