Integrated Elementary Teaching, B.S. in Ed.

In order to apply to the Integrated Elementary Teaching Program (IETP), students must have completed at least 45 credits of college work with an overall grade point average of at least 3.0 on a 4-point scale and have completed EDU 201  with a grade of C* or better. In addition, applications to the program require:

  1. documentation of at least 30 hours of experience working with K-8 students in an educational setting under the supervision of a licensed professional who attests to the candidate’s potential to become a highly qualified teacher;
  2. passing scores on all sections of Praxis I (PPST) or CBEST;
  3. a grade of C (not C-) or better in all education courses;
  4. a grade of C (not C-) or better in all other courses required in the IETP.


Additional requirements associated with the application process can be obtained from the Student Advisement Center in the College of Education (WRB 2005). A specified number of students will be admitted into the various programs each semester, based on admission criteria and space available in the program.

Refer to the “English” section of the Core Curriculum  chapter in this catalog.

NOTE: Students who place in ENG 102  are not required to complete ENG 101 .

B. Mathematics (3-5 units)

 

C. Natural Sciences (6-8 units)

Select one course from each group:

D. Social Science (3 units)

 

E. Fine Arts (3 units)

Refer to the “Core Humanities” section of the Core Curriculum  chapter in this catalog.

II. Additional College Requirements (30 units)

 

A. English (6 units)

6 additional units in approved courses in children’s literature and writing/language/grammar: EDU 207  (required) and ENG 281 , ENG 282 , ENG 297  or ENG 321 .

B. Natural Sciences (3 units)

In addition to the courses completed for Core Natural Science, a course in Life Science is required; BIOL 100 , BIOL 110  (recommended), or ENV 100  (or above).

C. Mathematics (6 units)

 

D. College of Education Core (15 units)

 

III. Major Requirements (42 units)

 Must be admitted to Teacher Education Program.
