I. University Core Curriculum Requirements (35-40 units)

NOTE: Refer to the Core Curriculum  chapter of this catalog for information regarding the “Core English and Math Completion Policy”.

A. English (3-8 units)

Refer to the “English” section of the Core Curriculum  chapter in this catalog.

NOTE: Students who place into ENG 102  are not required to complete ENG 101  .

B. Mathematics (3 units minimum)

Refer to the “Mathematics” section of the Core Curriculum  Chapter in this catalog. 

C. Natural Sciences (4 units)

Refer to “II. Nursing Prerequisite Requirements” below.

D. Social Sciences (3 units)

Choose one of the following.

Refer to the “Fine Arts” section of the Core Curriculum  chapter in this catalog. 

F. The Core Humanities (9 units)

Refer to the “Core Humanities” section of the Core Curriculum  chapter in this catalog. 

G. Capstone Courses (7 units)

Refer to the “Diversity” section of the Core Curriculum  chapter in this catalog. 

Note(s):

All Core Curriculum requirements, except the General Capstone requirement, and the Nursing Prerequisite Requirements must be completed before entering the nursing major.  Details on the major admission application process are included below.

II. Nursing Prerequisite Requirements (33-34 units)

Note(s):

During completion of the final semester of prerequisites, pre-nursing majors may apply for entrance to the nursing major by completing the formal application found on the OSN website. Admission to the nursing major is based on the GPA earned in the courses included on the application to the major. The GPA for these courses must be a minimum of 3.0 and may include no grade less than a “C” in any course.

III. Nursing Major Requirements (53-58 units)

A. Upper-Division Nursing Major Requirements (53 units)

B. Upper-Division Electives (0-5)

Overall, 64 upper-division units are required.

VI. Recommended Schedule

Nursing students are admitted to the major both fall and spring semesters and are enrolled during fall, spring, and summer terms. Many of the courses below have prerequisites that are not listed below.  Prerequisites courses may count toward General Electives.
