In general, students will not be allowed to major AND minor in English. However, certain exceptions may be made on a case-by-case basis. These must be officially approved by the Director of Undergraduate Studies in English, in accordance with the following strictly predetermined list of combinations.
The minors the department offers can be grouped into “English” (all literature and writing) and “Linguistics” (Language and Linguistics and TESOL). Students may combine a major/minor in “English” and “Linguistics,” but cannot combine majors/minors from within either of these groups.
Students cannot apply any courses fulfilling major requirements toward the minor. Instead, they must complete 18 units of additional upper-division electives in English (21 units for both the Literature and the Literature and the Environment minors) for their minor.
