Geophysics, B.S. in Geophysics

Description


The Geophysics program provides coursework that examines the physical traits of the Earth and explores its interactions with space. Aspects of geophysics includes the study of the Earth’s magnetic and gravitational fields, volcanism, the hydrological cycle, atmospheric studies and interactions with the Moon and other celestial bodies.

Advisor approval required. Select one from the following:

  1. GEOL 451 - Summer Field Geology (3 units)
  2. The Summer of Applied Geophysical Experience (SAGE) offered through Los Alamos Lab.
  3. A geophysical Field Camp offered through another university.
  4. GEOL 495 - Special Problems  taken with a Geophysical Faculty member.

Note(s):


The addition of PHYS 323  and PHYS 423  Intermediate and Advanced Physics Lab - 3 units total will satisfy the physics minor.

There is no minor requirement.

  • For students wishing to go into energy or exploration industries, the following course is highly recommended and may be required for minors in Geology or Hydrogeology:
