II. Description


Civil engineering focuses on teaching students to apply their scientific and engineering knowledge to the construction of infrastructure projects. Students study buildings, bridges, highways and foundations, and learn to make decisions about engineering and design that take social, economic and environmental concerns into account.

III. Program Requirements (18 units)


The following requirements apply to the minor program in civil engineering:

  1. At least 18 units of formal courses must be completed in the minor department, 12 units of which are upper- division courses approved by the chair of both the minor and major departments.
  2. The 12 units of upper-division courses in the minor department must be in addition to the units completed in upper-division required courses in the major department. Course requirements are specified by the curriculum of the major department.
  3. In addition to the general university requirements of at least a “C” (2.0) GPA for graduation, all Civil Engineering minors must earn at least a “C” in those minor courses designated with an asterisk (*) and a “C” average for all courses used to satisfy the minor requirements.
