Integrated Elementary Teaching, B.S. in Ed.

Description

This innovative program prepares elementary teachers in Nevada for grades K-8. Students earn an additional license or endorsement that enables them to be effective and prepared for teaching in today’s diverse classrooms: (1) Early Childhood Education, (2) Special Education, and/or (3) English Language Acquisition and Development.

Transfer to Nevada

Use the transfer agreement  and the degree planner (available by clicking  at the top right of this page) to build your plan for graduation with your advisor. Course substitutions not identified on the transfer agreement require UNR advisor approval.

If a major-to-major transfer agreement is not available for your transfer institution, please check the General Core agreement   if available. If neither is available, access established transfer course equivalencies to assist in your planning.

Admission Requirements

In order to apply to the Integrated Elementary Teaching Program (IETP), students must have completed at least 45 credits of college work with an overall grade point average of at least 3.0 on a 4-point scale and have completed EDU 201  with a grade of C or better. In addition, applications to the program require:

1. Documentation of at least 30 hours of experience working with K-8 students in an educational setting under the supervision of a licensed professional who attests to the candidate’s potential to become a highly qualified teacher;
2. Passing scores on all sections of the Praxis Core Academic Skills for Educators Test (Praxis Core) or the California Basic Educational Skills Test (CBEST);
3. A grade of C (not C-) or better in all education (EDU) courses.

Additional requirements associated with the application process can be obtained from the Student Advisement Center in the College of Education (WRB 2005). A limited number of students will be admitted into each emphasis area each semester, based on admission criteria and space available.

Graduation Requirements

I. Silver Core General Education Requirements (24-27 units)

NOTE: Refer to the Core Curriculum chapter of this catalog for information regarding the “Core English and Math Completion Policy  .”

Students in this major must meet all Silver Core Objectives (CO1 through CO14). Courses satisfying Core Objectives are designated (e.g., CO9) in General Catalog curricula and course descriptions.

II. Additional Silver Core Requirements (0 units maximum)

Students must take courses that satisfy the following Core Objectives. Some or all of these Silver Core Objectives may be satisfied in the Major Requirements (Section IV). Refer to the Core Curriculum   chapter in this catalog.

Students who are undecided about choosing teaching as a career are encouraged to take EDU 110 as an exploratory elective course.
