II. Brief Introduction

The Master of Education (M.Ed.) degree in elementary education offers you the opportunity to become a licensed teacher at the elementary and middle school levels (K-8). This program is designed for those with a degree in another field who want to become teachers. Some undergraduate prerequisite courses may be necessary, depending on your previous course work.

III. Admission Requirements

Applicants need to meet and/or complete the following:

• Completed application for program
• Regular admission requires a minimum overall GPA from bachelor’s degree of 3.0
• Pre-req coursework form
• Two Letters of Recommendation
• Curriculum Vitae
• Signed Behavior and Dispositions form
• Essay
• 1-2 page Professional Resume
• Meet pre-professional skill requirements through passing Praxis, CBEST or masters program that required GRE

Applications are accepted on-going, but are reviewed twice a year with deadlines of October 1 and March 1.

The specific curriculum requirements are adapted to the professional needs of the student. Students should not enroll in any graduate-level course without first securing the approval of the department that such a course is acceptable toward a selected major or minor.

In addition to admission requirements specified by each department, applicants must be qualified in the professional judgment of the College of Education faculty.

IV. Program Requirements

In order to earn the master of education degree, students must complete 32 to 67 credits of approved courses with a major in education. Program outlines can be obtained in the College of Education website. Please review the College of Education website for detailed instructions

A maximum of six graduate credits of S/U grades may be applied toward a master’s degree requiring at least 32 semester credits.
