Description
The Geography Department offers a Bachelor of Arts and Bachelor of Science with a specialization in Globalization, Politics and Place. The GPP specialization emphasizes proficiency in social and cultural geography and develops skills in critical thinking, research techniques, and oral and written communication. Students obtaining the GPP specialization will learn and apply geographic information about cultural, political and economic systems and processes to understand how people, places and regions are linked globally. This specialization is recommended for students interested in career fields that involve international relations and diplomacy, development, government, urban policy, non-profit and non-governmental work, teaching, and graduate studies in Geography or related disciplines.

I. Silver Core General Education Requirements (25-29 units)

Students in this major must meet all Silver Core Objectives (CO1 through CO14). Courses satisfying Core Objectives are designated (e.g., CO9) in General Catalog curricula and course description.

III. Additional College Requirements (0-14 units)
Units may vary depending on initial course placement in foreign language.
A. Foreign Language
Successful completion of the foreign language requirement may be accomplished through one of four options:
- complete a fourth semester college course in a foreign language or in American Sign Language;
- demonstrate proficiency through placement examination or other means determined by the Department of World Languages and Literatures, including minimum CBAPE, SAT II, or IB scores;
- show transcript evidence of successful completion of four years of high school coursework in the same foreign language; or
- participate in a Studies Abroad program pre-approved by the college to meet the foreign language requirement.

It is recommended that students consult with an undergraduate adviser in selecting Geography courses related to their chosen areas of interest. Student must choose from upper division courses, 300 level and above within the Geography program.
V. Minor Requirements (18-21 units)
Students may complete any minor approved by the University, except that students may not receive credit for both a minor and a major in the same discipline. Completion of a second major or degree approved by the university satisfies this requirement.
