Pack Teach Secondary Education and Political Science, B.A./B.A. in Ed.

Description

The Bachelor of Arts with majors in Secondary Education and Political Science provides students with a broad background in political science and take all the necessary courses to meet state licensure to teach social studies, together with secondary teaching certification. Students who successfully complete the program are prepared to pursue secondary school teaching, graduate school, or an immediate career as a social studies teacher.

Transfer to the University of Nevada, Reno

Admission Requirements (Secondary Education)

In order to apply for admission to the Secondary Teacher Education program, students must have completed at least 30 credits of college coursework with a grade point average of no less than 2.75 (on a 4-point scale) and have completed EDU 202  or the equivalent with a grade of “C” (not “C-“) or better. The 30 credits must include core requirements in English, math, and the sciences. In addition, applicants must have passed all three parts of the Praxis I Core Skills tests or passed all parts of the California Basic Education Skills Test (CBEST). Graduation Requirements

I. Silver Core General Education Requirements (27-30 units)

NOTE: Refer to the Core Curriculum chapter of this catalog for information regarding the “Core English and Math Completion Policy  .”

Students in this major must meet all Silver Core Objectives (CO1 through CO14). Courses satisfying Core Objectives are designated (e.g., CO9) in General Catalog curricula and course descriptions.

II. Additional Silver Core Requirements (3 units maximum)

Students must take courses that satisfy the following Core Objectives. Some or all of these Silver Core Objectives may be satisfied in the Major Requirements (Section IV). Refer to the Core Curriculum  chapter in this catalog.

III. Additional College Requirements (0-14 units)

Units may vary depending on initial course placement in foreign language coursework. College minor requirement waived per multiple-degree policy so long as students remain in BA/BAEd program; students who declare this dual-degree program and subsequently choose to withdraw and declare BA Political Science must at that point declare and complete a minor.
