Description


The Accounting major provides students with the theories and procedures necessary to prepare them for the many facets of the accounting profession, such as public, corporate, managerial, tax, and government accounting. Students graduating from the department are prepared to obtain employment in a competitive job market, start a business, or continue their education in graduate and professional degree programs.

Note: Students may not earn a Bachelor of Science in Business Administration with a major in Accounting AND a second major in Accounting and Information Systems either concurrently or subsequently. Students may earn a Bachelor of Science in Business Administration with dual majors in Accounting and Information Systems . Students also have the option to major in Accounting and complete a minor in Information Systems .

Admission Requirements


All students who are interested in graduating with a B.S. in Business Administration degree with a major in Accounting start by being declared as “pre-majors.” Pre-majors must complete Core Writing, Core Mathematics, the Pre-Business Core, and a total of 60 units before meeting with an Accounting advisor to declare the Accounting major. Students must declare their major before they may take any courses in the Upper-Division Business Core.

  • Business Course Time Limit | Coursework used to complete College of Business and Major requirements must have been completed within the 10 years prior to the year of graduation.

NOTE: Twelve (12) of the eighteen required credits must be completed at UNR.

Note(s):


All students, regardless of major, are required to earn a “C” or better in the individual prerequisites for each upper-division accounting course to advance to the next upper-division accounting course. Each upper-division accounting course may be taken for a maximum of two times.

Once a student has matriculated into a major or minor at the University of Nevada, Reno, all required accounting courses must be taken at the University of Nevada, Reno. Accounting electives may be transferred from another AACSB accredited institution.

Transfer courses are not included in the calculation of major GPA (2.0 is required for graduation).
