Description
Students who complete this Dual Degree Program will earn two degrees: the Bachelor of Arts in Education/Secondary Education and the Bachelor of Arts in French. This program provides students with a foundational background in French linguistics, literature, and culture, and includes all coursework required to apply for a license to teach French in Nevada. Students who successfully complete the program are prepared to pursue secondary school teaching, graduate school, or an immediate career using French.
Degree Student Learning Outcomes:
- French: Students will be able to write research papers in French that reflect organized literary, linguistic, or cultural analysis, critical thinking, and writing proficiency in the Advanced (or higher) range.
- French: Students will be able to converse in French at the Intermediate Mid to Intermediate High (or higher) ranges.
- Secondary Education: Students will complete a series of research papers on topics related to education during the course of their teacher preparation program.
- Secondary Education: Students will demonstrate a strong foundation of knowledge about teaching and learning by completing practicum experiences and internships.

Students in this major must meet all Silver Core Objectives (CO1 through CO14). Courses satisfying Core Objectives are designated (e.g., CO9) in General Catalog curricula and course descriptions.

III. Additional College Requirements (6-20 units)
Units may vary depending on initial course placement in foreign language coursework.
A. Foreign Language (0-14 units)
Successful completion of the foreign language requirement may be accomplished through one of four options:
- complete a fourth semester college course in a foreign language or in American Sign Language;
- demonstrate proficiency through placement examination or other means determined by the Department of World Languages and Literatures, including minimum CBAPE, SAT II, or IB scores;
- show transcript evidence of successful completion of four years of high school coursework in the same foreign language; or
- participate in a Studies Abroad program pre-approved by the college to meet the foreign language requirement.
B. College Breadth Requirement (6 units)
Students seeking a Bachelor of Arts degree in the college shall be required to take, within the College of Liberal Arts, 6 credits that are outside the departments in which they major or minor, and that exclude courses taken to fulfill the Silver Core General Education requirements (Core Objectives 1 through 7).
IV. Major Requirement (72 units)
In French, all units must be 300 - 400 level, with the exception of FREN 221 French Culture. Twelve of the 33 required units must be completed on the University of Nevada, Reno campus.

If a student drops out of BA Ed portion of program and wants to retain BA FREN, declaration and completion of a minor would then be required.
