BS/MBA Accelerated Program, College of Engineering

Applicant Criteria

Applicants to the program must:

• Be enrolled in an undergraduate program in the College of Engineering
• Have a minimum GPA of 3.2 cumulative
• Have a minimum GMAT score of 500 OR a minimum GRE score of 150 on each of the verbal and quantitative sections

Application materials must be filed at The Graduate School and the MBA office. Applicants must meet all current admissions requirements, except the required professional work experience, which will be waived.

This is a competitive entry program. Up to 15 students from the College of Engineering will be selected each year.

Admissions Deadline

• Take GMAT/GRE, two semesters before you graduate with your B.S.
• Apply to Graduate School and MBA program, March 15 for the following fall and October 15 for the following spring.

Undergraduate Course Work

The undergraduate curriculum (equivalent to the core for the MBA program and in addition to required courses for the engineering degree) is comprised of the following courses:

• ACC 201 - Financial Accounting (3 units)
• ECON 302 - Intermediate Microeconomics (3 units) *
• FIN 301 - Principles of Managerial Finance (3 units) *
• MGT 323 - Organization and Interpersonal Behavior (3 units) *
• MKT 210 - Marketing Principles (3 units)
• SCM 352 - Operations Management (3 units) *
• STAT 352 - Probability and Statistics (3 units)

• * BS/MBA students who meet the following modified prerequisites must seek the assistance of a College of Engineering Academic Advisor to enroll in these business courses:

  • Have completed ECON 102 OR HON 220 as a prerequisite for ECON 302
  • Have completed ACC 201 as a prerequisite for FIN 301
  • Have been admitted to the BS/MBA program as a prerequisite for MGT 323
  • Have completed STAT 352 as a prerequisite for SCM 352

  For all other courses, students must meet the published prerequisite.

Graduate Course Work

The MBA curriculum consists of the following graduate courses:

• BADM 750 - Information and Communications Technology in Organizations (3 units)
• BADM 772 - Changing Environments of Business (3 units)
• BADM Breadth Courses (12 credits)
• Area of Emphasis (9 credits)
• Integration (3 credits)

Program Details

Students interested in the BS/MBA program must maintain satisfactory academic progress (SAP). SAP includes receiving a grade of at least a B in each business course and maintaining an overall GPA of at least 3.2. If less than a B is earned, students must take the corresponding 700-level BADM course.

Undergraduate engineering students in the BS/MBA program may take up to 6 credits of graduate-level courses (600 and 700 level) towards the MBA degree if the undergraduate business curriculum is complete. The student and academic advisor must submit the request form, available on The Graduate School website, to take graduate credits as an undergraduate.
