Exploratory (Health Science Meta-Major)

Meta-Majors

For students who are exploring different majors it is strongly encouraged that they chose a Meta-Major for their course of study.  This will be selected by the student at the time of application.  This Meta-Major will be utilized by the student’s advisor to enroll them through Advanced Registration and in consultation with their advisor (s) for future term.  It will focus student’s enrollment around degree applicable courses for the focus areas.

There are 7 Meta-Majors

  • Engineering
  • Business
  • Arts, Humanities, Communications, and Media
  • Human & Social Services
  • Sustainability, Earth Science, and Land and Natural Resource Management
  • Animal, Life, and Physical Science
  • Health Science

Purpose

The purpose of Meta-Majors is to assist students who are exploring their academic path through a collaborative student-center approach.  The Exploratory and Pre-Professional Advising Center engages students in the process of exploring and defining their academic and career goals and creates effective strategies to achieve these goals.  Students are encouraged to participate in ExplorationFIT or take ACE 100 – Academic and Career Exploration (1 unit) in the fall semester of their first-year to jumpstart their decision on a major.

Health Science Meta-Major

The Health Science Meta-Major is designed for students who are considering academic studies related to Health Science.  The general focus of the coursework in this Meta-Major focuses on areas within Health Science such as Kinesiology, Public Health, Speech Pathology, Nutrition, NevadaTeach, and Psychology.  The majors connected to this course work could lead to careers in the following fields: Health Practioners, Physicians, Physical Therapy, Paramedic, Medical & Health Services Managers, and Pharmacists.

Declaration of Major Policy

Exploratory students must declare a major before or upon completion of 45 credits as per the Declaration of the Major Requirement policy specified in this catalog.

I. Silver Core General Education Requirements (24-27 units)


NOTE: Refer to the Core Curriculum chapter of this catalog for information regarding the “Core English and Math Completion Policy  .”

Students must meet all Silver Core Objectives (CO1 through CO14). Courses satisfying Core Objectives are designated (e.g., CO9) in General Catalog curricula and course description.

A. Composition & Communication; Critical Analysis & Use of Information (3-6 units) - CO1, CO3


B. Quantitative Reasoning (3 units minimum) - CO2


C. Physical & Natural Phenomena (6 units minimum) - CO4, CO4L
