Supply Chain Management, Minor

Supply chain management plays a vital role in our societies and economies as was amply demonstrated by the recent COVID-19 pandemic. This is also an industry that is experiencing rapid expansion and a lack of young talent. The U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics reported last year that the manufacturing and transportation industries saw a combined opening of 1.3 million jobs. Overall, as of August of 2022, in the U.S. there were five million more job openings than there were unemployed people. According to the U.S. News’ list of the Best Business Jobs for 2022, logistics ranks at number eight.

In addition, the greater Reno area serves as a distribution and transportation hub and a gateway to the western states. Approximately 67% of the College of Business graduates remain in the Reno area where the labor market for college graduates remains limited. By offering a Minor in Supply Chain Management at the College of Business, we will create new prospects and opportunities for our students in one of the fastest-growing industries locally and globally. Already, with just two semesters to promote the program and meet with senior leadership in the Reno business community, we are happy to report that 20 paid internships have been made available for COB students related to SCM in Summer 2023.
