The English as a Second Language Program designed specifically for students who are ready to succeed in immersive English-speaking classrooms, and also want the benefit of English-language and student support to help them thrive. The program curriculum offers exclusive ESL courses, with English-language supplements that equip students with the practical, subject-specific vocabulary and skills that they need to excel in their course work.

Students may enter the program in the spring, summer or fall. Upon completion of the program, students progress into year two of their undergraduate education. The students will be non-degree seeking and will need to apply to a degree seeking program.

Student Learning Outcomes

Students will be able to:

comprehend, analyze, synthesize, and discuss English texts for the purpose of furthering academic, personal, vocational and civic growth.
critically evaluate and modify own written language to enhance academic, personal, vocational, and civic communication.
listen effectively, and consistently produce comprehensible spoken English in a variety of academic, personal, vocational and civic situations.
develop necessary English Language Skills to support moving towards degree seeking status.

English Second Language

Student will complete a combination of the courses based on their placement:

ESL 110 - Grammar in Context L2 (4 units)
ESL 111 - Applied Integrated Skills L2 (4 units)
ESL 112 - Grammar in Context L3 (4 units)
ESL 114 - Grammar in Context L4 (4 units)
ESL 115 - Applied Integrated Skills – Level 4 Undergraduate (3 units)
