Integrated Elementary Teaching, B.S. in Ed.


This innovative program prepares elementary teachers in Nevada for grades K-8. Students in earning the requirements for a NV K-8 Teaching license (Elementary) with an additional license, endorsement, or emphasis that enables them to be effective and prepared for teaching in today’s diverse classrooms: (1) Special Education, (2) English Language Acquisition and Development.

Program Learning Outcomes


Students will be able to:

  • demonstrate foundational knowledge of equity and diversity as it applies to culture, language, and students with disabilities. (CT)
  • apply appropriate assessment strategies, planning for, and delivery and management of instruction for diverse students of all abilities. (QR)
  • formulate writing that demonstrates cultural awareness and mechanically correct. (C)

Admission Requirements


In order to apply to the Integrated Elementary Teaching Program (IETP), students must have completed at least 45 credits of college work with an overall grade point average of at least 2.75 on a 4-point scale and have completed EDU 201  with a grade of C or better. In addition, applications to the program require:

  1. Documentation of at least 30 hours of experience working with K-8 students in an educational setting under the supervision of a licensed professional who attests to the candidate’s potential to become a highly qualified teacher;
  2. Passing scores on all sections of the Praxis Core Academic Skills for Educators Test (Praxis Core) or the California Basic Educational Skills Test (CBEST);
  3. A grade of C (not C-) or better in all education (EDU) courses.

Additional requirements associated with the application process can be obtained from the Student Advisement Center in the College of Education and Human Development (WRB 4002). A limited number of students will be admitted into each emphasis area each semester, based on admission criteria and space available.

IV. Major Requirements (84-91 units)


Successful completion of the IETP Portfolio indicates students’ readiness to begin internships. A portfolio is a required program component for all students in the Integrated Elementary Teaching Program. The portfolio is a compilation of reflective essays, coursework assignments, and practicum evaluations that demonstrate a student’s level of mastery on the ten Interstate New Teachers Assessment and Support Consortium (InTASC) Model Core Teaching Standards. The InTASC standards are effective teaching practices that we expect IETP students to know and demonstrate. You will not progress onto internship if your portfolio is incomplete.
