Secondary Education - Physical Education B.S. in Sec. Ed.

Program Learning Outcomes

Students will be able to:

• demonstrate knowledge in teaching physical education from the K- 12 level in schools by developing well-detailed lesson plans and units that reflect physical education as a theory and as a practice paired with alternatives to the traditional approaches to curriculum development and implementation. (C)
• apply inclusive practices that include learners from diverse perspectives and learning styles.  These practices will show an understanding of physical education from a K-12 perspective in both concrete and abstract formats through problem-solving, creative analytical and critical thinking skills, and physical skills to formulate multiple perspectives on form, content, and disciplines inherent in physical education. (CT, QR)
• demonstrate knowledge of curriculum  in their selection of curriculum, instructional planning and lesson delivery at the pre-planning, during planning and post-lesson phases of teaching, ways to move beyond the structures of physical education as a subject by including ways to reflect and offer multiple perspectives that enable the students to analyze ideas, abstractions, and “what if” scenarios in diverse physical settings. 
• achieve a basic mastery and scholarly competence in the academic endeavors of Physical Education and Secondary Education.

Admission Requirements

To apply for admission to the Secondary Teacher Education program, students must have completed at least 30 credits of college coursework with a grade point average of no less than 2.5 (on a 4-point scale) and have completed EDU 202 or the equivalent with a grade of “C” (not “C-“) or better. The 30 credits must include core requirements in English, math, and the sciences (CO1-4). In addition, applicants must have passed all three parts of the Praxis Core Academic Skills test or passed all parts of the California Basic Education Skills Test (CBEST). The application for full admission can be found on the College of Education website.

Transfer to the University of Nevada, Reno

Course substitutions not identified on the transfer agreement require UNR advisor approval.

If a major-to-major transfer agreement is not available for your transfer institution, please check the General Core agreement if available. If neither is available, access Transferology to assist in your planning.

I. Core General Education Requirements (25-28 units)

Students in this major must meet all Core Objectives (CO1 through CO14). Courses satisfying Core Objectives are designated (e.g., CO9) in General Catalog curricula and course descriptions.
