The Graduate Certificate in Geographic Information Systems and Science is offered through the Department of Geography. The program combines proficiency in the use of geographic information systems (GIS) with conceptual knowledge of geographic problem-solving and spatial thinking. Students develop skills to address critical issues in their field of study, including map-making, visual design and data display, research methods, oral and written communications, basic programming, and spatial analysis. The GIS Certificate will provide graduate students in various disciplines with the professional tools, methods, and software necessary to use GIS to manage and analyze spatial data, as well as communicate results.

Program Learning Outcomes
Students will be able to: - apply technical knowledge and proficiency in the use of geographic information systems (GIS) software.
- demonstrate mastery in conceptual methods alongside knowledge of geographic information science necessary to manage, analyze, and work with spatial data and information to conduct appropriate analysis in a student specific field of study.
- communicate spatial information and the results of spatial analysis effectively at an advanced level.
