The bachelor’s degree program is designed to provide high school graduates with the opportunity to earn a baccalaureate degree in nursing. The bachelor’s degree program provides the basic preparation for professional nursing practice and leadership roles. After completing the program, the graduate is qualified for nursing positions in public health agencies, schools, hospitals, and other healthcare providers. Nursing school graduates may also earn commissioned status in the military services and admission to graduate education. This bachelor’s degree program major pathway is four years, with one mandatory summer, and fall semester admissions.
The baccalaureate degree program is approved by the Nevada State Board of Nursing and accredited by the Commission on Collegiate Nursing Education (CCNE).

Program Learning Outcomes
Students will be able to: - apply quality improvement principles, standards, methods, and strategies to identify health and systems problems and support evidence-based change in practice settings.

Course substitutions not identified on the transfer agreement require UNR advisor approval. If a major-to-major transfer agreement is not available for your transfer institution, please check the General Core agreement if available. The Orvis School of Nursing has a competitive application process that accepts 10-16 applicants once a year, in the Fall semester. The application is open in January, with students applying by invitation only. - The applicant must be officially admitted to the University of Nevada, Reno (UNR) as a declared degree-seeking student. Applicant must possess an NSHE ID number. Students who are not currently active or enrolled at the University of Nevada, Reno will need to reapply. UNR application fee may apply.
- Applicants in the Dean’s Future Scholars, Community of English- Spanish Speakers programs, and Washoe County School District’s two Career Academies, Academy of the Arts, Careers, and Technology, and Debbie Smith Career and Technical Academy, who have declared nursing or health sciences as a special interest, will be eligible to apply.
- Selection to the nursing major is accomplished by a rank-order list of qualified applicants based on a point matrix. (see OSN website for additional information regarding admission selection criteria).
- After completing the selection process for the nursing major, students will be sent a letter of provisional acceptance. All selected students must attend a mandatory orientation and accept provisional admission to the nursing major.
- Letters of non-acceptance will also be sent.
- Admission for Upper Division coursework will be confirmed when all criteria have been verified (background check/drug screening, fit for duty documentation, immunizations, BLS certification, liability insurance coverage, and successful completion of all in-progress prerequisite work).
Note: Applicants must complete or have met all UNR Silver Core General Education Curriculum requirements in addition to the nursing prerequisites before entering the nursing major. No grade below “C–” in any core general education requirements will be accepted as applicable to the nursing degree. No grade below a “C” in the nursing prerequisite coursework from the Nursing Point Matrix or Major Requirements will be accepted. Following admission to the nursing major and successful completion of the nursing major coursework, students will receive a B.S.N. Graduation Requirements
