Return to {$returnto_text} Return to: Composition, B.M: Transfer Agreements

Students who start their career at Western Nevada College may complete a Bachelor of Music in Composition by following the course of study described below.

WNC Program to be completed - Associate of Arts

  • A candidate for a bachelor’s degree must earn a minimum of 120 units, at least 42 of which must be in courses numbered 300 or above. A minimum of 30 units (300-level or above) must be taken in residence at the University of Nevada, Reno.
  • Students who graduate from a Nevada System of Higher Education (NSHE) community college with an Associate of Arts, Associate of Science, or an Associate of Business degree automatically fulfill lower-division general education requirements (CO1-8) at the University unless specific general education courses are required for completion of the student’s major program.
  • To find out how other courses transfer, visit the Transfer Center website or access the Transfer Evaluation System
  • See the Composition, B.M. program description for more information on degree requirements.

NOTE: This transfer agreement has been created specifically for the programs listed above and only applies to students who complete the associate’s degree listed. If the associate’s degree is not earned, or a new program is selected, the transfer and articulation of listed courses, as well as fulfilled degree requirements, could be impacted.

To ensure a successful transition to the University and graduation in four years, students must work with academic advisors at UNR and WNC throughout their career.

Students may earn an Associate of Arts, Associate of Science, or Associate of Business degree after transferring to the University via reverse transfer. Talk about this opportunity with an academic advisor at WNC and UNR.

The Silver State Transfer program may provide the least costly route to a bachelor’s degree, including personalized academic advising from both institutions, certainty on how your specific courses will transfer, and the exchange of transcripts between institutions at no additional cost to you.

Recommended Schedule

For information about the Core Objectives (CO) 1-14, please visit the Core Curriculum   chapter in the catalog.

NOTES:

  • Approved substitutions for bachelor’s degree requirements:
    • WNC: MUS 111 = UNR: MUS 109
    • WNC: MUS 112 = UNR: MUS 110
  • Students must audition for acceptance to this program. Refer to the “Admission Requirement” section of the program description (linked above) for more information and the School of Music website for audition requirements and deadlines.
  • Students must earn a “C” or better in all required music courses. See the “Progression Standards” section of the program description (linked above) for more information.
  • Dual enrollment with UNR after the first year is essential, since WNC does not offer all music coursework required by the BM degree. Students can earn the AA from WNC degree via reverse transfer upon conclusion of the second year.
  • Many required music courses at UNR are only offered once per year. The recommended schedule below assumes the student begins the first semester in a fall term. This schedule sequences out to five years due to the need to complete residency credit requirements at WNC, the timing of when music courses are typically offered at UNR, and music course prerequisites. Students can consult with advisors at WNC and UNR to discuss possible options for completing the AA and BM degrees in less time.
