Special Education (Generalist), Graduate Certificate (Online)

This is an online program.
The Special Education Certificate is for current teachers in Nevada who already hold an initial teaching license in elementary or secondary education and wish to add the Generalist endorsement to teach K-12 students with mild to moderate disabilities. Teachers outside of Nevada who wish to enroll in the certificate program may, but they should consult with the licensing agency in their home state to determine if it meets licensing requirements.

Program Learning Outcomes
Students will be able to: - describe the characteristics of students with mild to moderate disabilities, their learning environments, and curriculum content to develop appropriate instruction.
- apply, plan, and deliver appropriate assessment strategies and instruction for individuals with disabilities.
- collaborate with families and professionals to develop and implement appropriate services for students with mild to moderate disablities.
Admission Requirements
A bachelors degree from a regionally accredited institution. For students who are not licensed teachers, licensure courses may be taken as part of a master’s degree. Contact the department for more information. For those licensed outside of Nevada, this certificate may provide you with courses needed to teach students with mild to moderate disabilities; check with your state licensing agency In addition to admission requirements specified by the department, applicants must be qualified in the professional judgment of the College of Education faculty. Students will complete the designated sequence of courses to complete the certificate. Students should not enroll in any graduate-level course without first speaking with an advisor. Graduate Certificate - Generalist
Students completing this sequences of courses will earn a Graduate Certificate in Special Education (Generalist). For those holding a Nevada teaching license in Elementary Education, this sequence will allow them to add the Special Education Generalist endorsement. For those with a Secondary Education license, they should speak with an advisor to determine if additional coursework is needed. |
