Master of Judicial Studies
The Master of Judicial Studies is a specialized degree program for sitting judges. The MJS degree is conferred solely by the university and is organized jointly by Judicial Studies, the National Judicial College, and the National Council of Juvenile and Family Court Judges. The degree program is the only such program in the nation.
Degree requirements:
- Declare a specialization in either Trial Judges Major or the Juvenile/Family Court Major;
- Spend a minimum of 12 weeks in residency on the University of Nevada, Reno campus;
- Finish course and thesis requirements in six years
Course requirements:
- Take 10 required and elective courses as specified for each major
Thesis requirements:
- Establish a thesis committee and write an approved thesis prospectus;
- Write and publish an approved scholarly article, or
- Write and defend a thesis
