The graduate certificate in Renewable Energy provides an opportunity for professionals including business staff or managers, practicing engineers, government regulators and others to develop knowledge in the diverse fields of renewable energy. The certificate is multi-disciplinary, with courses offered from several engineering disciplines in addition to courses from the colleges of science, business, and liberal arts. The course architects are experts in the respective renewable energy related fields at Nevada research institutions.
The Graduate Certificate in Renewable Energy is designed as a 12-credit program with courses to be selective from an approved list available in the College of Engineering office. The curriculum is planned to allow for maximum flexibility for students, but to also provide a breadth of understanding of the different aspects of renewable energy. The courses will be offered online, albeit in a traditional semester-long time frame. The certificate also included internship courses of short duration offered onsite. It is recommended that students avail themselves of the opportunity for hands-on work available through the internships.
Admission to the program is open to all students who hold a bachelor’s degree in engineering, management, or a closely related field. Students not enrolled in a graduate degree program must complete a graduate special application and apply to the Renewable Energy Certificate program. Students must have a B (3.0) or better average in the program to earn the certificate and all course work must be completed within 5 years of matriculation. These courses will not apply toward graduate (M.S. or Ph.D.) programs in engineering.
