On Jan. 26, 1988, the University of Nevada Board of Regents approved the following policy to be effective beginning with the 1988 fall semester:
Western Undergraduate Exchange (W.U.E.)*:
Students admitted as part of the Western Undergraduate Exchange program demonstrate the strongest academic qualifications. WUE students are not subject to out-of-state tuition charges and pay 150% of in-state registration fees. This is tuition savings of several thousand dollars each year. Students residing in one of the following states may be considered for WUE status: Alaska, Arizona, California, Colorado, Hawaii, Idaho, Montana, New Mexico, North Dakota, Oregon, South Dakota, Utah, Washington, or Wyoming.
For new freshmen:
Students must have a minimum weighted 3.00 high school Academic GPA in the following required core classes: 4 years English; 3 years math (Algebra I or higher); 3 years of natural sciences; 3 years of social sciences and must have a minimum 22 ACT composite score or 1,100 SAT score combined critical reading and math only. Test scores must be from the same administration/sitting. In order to be considered for WUE status, students must submit a completed application to the University by February 1st for fall. WUE eligible freshmen are those recent high school graduates who have completed no college-level work after the summer immediately following their high school graduation and admission to the University. WUE freshmen must live on campus in University housing for the first year. Other conditions may apply.
For new transfer students:
New transfer students may be eligible for WUE. Students must complete 24 transferable credits from a regionally accredited post-secondary institution within a WUE state and have a 3.0 cumulative transfer GPA (from all institutions). To be considered for WUE status, students must submit a completed application to the University by July 1st for fall and January 5th for spring.
For all students:
The program is available to students in all majors, but is limited to 4 years for all students. Student must stay in good academic standing and have continuous enrollment to maintain WUE. WUE requirements are subject to change.
Students cannot begin the process of attempting to establish Nevada residency for tuition purposes while participating in and receiving the benefits of the WUE tuition program.
* Students who attend the university in the WUE reduced tuition program shall not be reclassified as a resident student unless the student has been subsequently enrolled as a non-WUE non-resident student for at least 12 months immediately prior to date of application for reclassification to resident student status.
