Regulations for Reduced Nonresident Tuition

On Jan. 26, 1988, the University of Nevada Board of Regents approved the following policy to be effective beginning with the 1988 fall semester:

Western Undergraduate Exchange (W.U.E.)*

Students admitted as part of the Western Undergraduate Exchange program demonstrate the strongest academic qualifications. WUE students are not subject to out-of-state tuition charges and pay 150% of in-state registration fees. This is tuition savings of several thousand dollars each year. Students residing in one of the following states may be considered for WUE status: Alaska, Arizona, California, Colorado, Hawaii, Idaho, Montana, New Mexico, North Dakota, Oregon, South Dakota, Utah, Washington, or Wyoming, as well as Guam and the Northern Mariana Islands.

Nevada Advantage

In Fall, 2016 and Spring, 2018, the University created the Nevada Advantage for incoming freshman and transfer students respectively:

Students admitted as part of the Nevada Advantage program demonstrate high academic qualifications. Nevada Advantage students are not subject to out-of-state tuition charges and pay 200% of in-state registration fees. This is tuition savings of several thousand dollars each year. Students residing in one of the following states may be considered for Nevada Advantage status: Alaska, Arizona, California, Colorado, Hawaii, Idaho, Montana, New Mexico, North Dakota, Oregon, South Dakota, Utah, Washington, or Wyoming, as well as Guam and the Northern Mariana Islands.

For up-to-date information and qualification factors for either program, please visit: www.unr.edu/wue

The WUE and Nevada Advantage programs are available to students in all majors, but are limited to 4 consecutive years for students receiving their first bachelor’s degree. WUE and Nevada Advantage requirements are subject to change. Students must meet the WUE or Nevada Advantage policy requirements established for the semester in which they apply and must do so by the deadline, prior to attending the University. Students are not eligible for reconsideration after they matriculate to the University.

Students cannot begin the process of establishing Nevada residency for tuition purposes while participating in and receiving the benefits of WUE or Nevada Advantage non-resident reduced tuition programs.

A student who attends the University on the WUE or Nevada Advantage reduced tuition program shall not be reclassified as a Nevada resident student unless the student has been subsequently enrolled as a non-resident student for at least 12 months immediately prior to the date of application for reclassification to resident student status.
