Admission Filing Dates for New Students:
First year students who submit a complete application for admission by February 1 (including application, official high school transcripts and official test scores) are guaranteed maximum consideration for admissions-based scholarships and tuition discount programs.
Admitted degree-seeking students have the option of completing the Graduate & Undergraduate scholarship application in MyNEVADA supplemental forms by the February 1 priority deadline or May 31 final deadline to increase the chance of being selected for scholarships and scholarship upgrades.
Admission Filing Dates for Returning Students, Nondegree Students and Graduate Specials:
Application forms must be submitted no later than the last business day prior to the beginning of the semester they wish to attend.
Application for Admission:
Application forms are available in the Office of Admissions and Records or through the university website until April 7, the final freshmen application deadline. Individuals who are interested in attending the University are responsible for submitting complete credentials to the Office of Admissions and Records. These credentials become the property of the University and are not returnable.
The following items are required:
- A completed Application for Admission, dated and signed; Applications are term specific and cannot be moved or deferred;
- A nonrefundable $60 application fee, $95 for international students. A $60 application fee is due with each application for admission;1, 2
- An official transcript, sent directly from the student’s high school;
- A separate official transcript (if the student is applying with advanced standing), to be sent directly from each college or university that the student attended, whether credit was earned or not;
- Official ACT or SAT scores. For information about the math and English placement, please go to the Core Curriculum chapter in the catalog.
- Individuals eligible for resident fees are required to submit an application for resident fees along with their admission credentials.
- Official documentation of immunization: Two doses of measles, mumps, rubella, with the first dose being given on or after first birthday and a diphtheria/tetanus within the last ten years. In addition, all freshmen are required to submit proof of having received the Meningococcal (MCV4) vaccination on or after age 16. Acceptable versions of the Meningitis vaccination are: Menactra or Menveo (MenACYW-135) or MCV4. Versions that will NOT meet this requirement: Bexero or Trumemba (MENG B) or HIB Meningitis. 1Full-time University of Nevada, Reno employees may petition the Office of Admission and Records for a waiver of the nonrefundable application fee.
2Application fee deferrals are available on a very limited basis to income qualified students. Please send a request outlining the circumstances of financial hardship to asknevada@unr.edu If approved, payment of the application fee is postponed until the semester of enrollment when it is added to the student’s fee bill. If the student does not enroll, it remains a financial obligation on the student’s account.
International applicants must submit the following additional credentials:
- Satisfactory scores on the Test of English as a Foreign Language (TOEFL),the International English Language Testing System (IELTS), or the Pearson Test of English (PTE Academic) indicating the student’s ability to speak, write and understand the English language sufficiently to pursue full-time study. The Test of Spoken English (TSE) or SPEAK (Speaking Proficiency in English Assessment Kit) test (administered by the Intensive English Language Center) is required for potential graduate teaching assistants. NOTE: TOEFL scores are not required for international students from countries where English is the language of instruction and/or commerce;
- Adequate proof of financial responsibility or sponsorship by a reputable U.S. citizen or organization for all obligations students incur while attending the University;
- All international students must clear the Student Health Center requirements upon arrival to the University of Nevada, Reno campus.
Application for Resident Fees:
Individuals eligible for resident fees are required to submit a completed application to the Office of Admissions and Records.
Cancellation of Admission or Registration:
The University reserves the right to cancel the admission or registration of an individual whose attendance at the university, in the opinion of the appropriate administrative offices and the president, is not mutually beneficial to that person and to the institution.
Individuals who have registered at other educational institutions may not disregard such records and apply for admission to the University of Nevada, Reno on the basis of their high school or selected college transcripts.
If you are an ineligible applicant and gain admission to the University on the basis of incomplete or fraudulent credentials, or misrepresentations in your written application for admission:
- Your admission and registration shall be cancelled without refund of any fees;
- The total credits you have earned will be rescinded;
- Future registration at the University will be prohibited
The Director of Admissions is responsible for the verification of documents and credentials. If it is determined that the student sought admission on the basis of incomplete or fraudulent credentials, or misrepresentations in the written application for admission, the student is notified in writing of the director’s intention to take action as listed above. The student then has 10 days to reply in writing. The director makes a determination and then takes appropriate action, notifying the student in writing.
The student may file a written appeal to the University President within 10 days. The president’s decision is final.
