Federal and Institutional Financial Aid
|
|
In order to receive financial aid, you must meet the following criteria:
- Submit EITHER the annual Free Application for Federal Student Assistance (FAFSA) application to school code 002568-00 OR complete the UNR Institutional Methodology for Non-FAFSA Eligible Students (IM). The annual priority deadline for each aid application is February 1.
- Be admitted to the University in a degree or eligible certificate program. You may submit your aid application prior to acceptance to the university, however, aid will not be offered until you have been admitted.
- Have a high school diploma.
- U.S. citizens and eligible non-citizens must submit the FAFSA. DACA, undocumented and returning international students are examples of those who should complete the Institutional Methodology for Non-FAFSA Eligible Students.
- Have a valid Social Security Number to complete the FAFSA.
- Be registered with Selective Service (if required).
- Be meeting satisfactory academic progress standards.*
- Use financial aid only for educational purposes.
- Not owe a refund on a federal grant or be in default on any federal educational loan.
Enrollment in degree applicable units is required to receive federal financial aid and the Kenny C. Guinn Millenium Scholarship. Degree applicable units are those that meet university, college, major, or minor requirements and other advisor-approved units in support of degree objectives.
* “Satisfactory Academic Progress” is the term used to denote successful completion of coursework toward a degree or certificate. The University is required to monitor the academic progress of all recipients of federal, state, and institutional aid. These standards apply for all periods of enrollment at all colleges attended. If you do not meet the minimum standards for grade point average and earned credits you may be ineligible for all types of aid – grants, scholarships and loans - administered by our office.
Submit the FAFSA at https://studentaid.gov/ or the IM (unr.edu - search Institutional Methodology) between October 1st and February 1st for maximum consideration. Submitting the FAFSA after February 1 allows you to be considered for Federal Pell Grants and Federal Direct Loans.
Institutional need-based grants are awarded on a first come, first served basis to eligible students who complete and submit either the FAFSA or the IM. Please search for institutional methodology at unr.edu.
