Dropping a Course

Students are responsible for managing their own enrollment. Instructors are not responsible for dropping students from classes but may do so during the first week of instruction for non-attendance in order to make room for other students in the class. Students may drop courses via Student Self-Service up until the 60% point of time into the term as defined on the University Academic  Calendar and/or in their Student Self-Service if a class has dynamic dates. If a course is dropped between the ninth day of classes during a regular academic term and the 60% point of the class, a grade of “W” appears on a student’s transcript.

Students are not permitted to drop individual courses or change courses from grade to audit after the 60% period defined in Self-Service. Under extenuating circumstances, including illness, accident or similar medical emergency or other hardship, students have the option of either requesting an incomplete grade in one or more courses which is at the instructor’s discretion, or withdrawing from the university. In both cases, students must follow the rules listed in sections of the catalog regarding these policies.

No student may drop a course to avoid discipline for academic dishonesty or a violation of the academic standards policy. If a course is dropped before discipline is imposed, any “W” may be changed to an “F”. A student is not eligible to apply for grade replacement, academic renewal or improper withdrawal for the semester in which the offense occurred.
