ECON 454 - Economics of Government Regulations (3 units) Economic analysis of regulatory policy focusing on market and non-market alternatives. Issues include environmental quality, health care, education, advertising, market power, utility and telecommunication deregulation. (General Capstone course.)
Prerequisite(s): ECON 102 ; CH 201 or CH 202 or CH 203 ; ENG 102 ; junior or senior standing.
Units of Lecture: 3 General Capstone Course Offered Every Spring Student Learning Outcomes (if available): Upon completion of this course: 1. Students will be able to apply theories of regulation to analyze policy issues. 2. Students will be able to analyze the implications of using willingness-to-pay as a criteria to determine the optimal quantity of social goods. 3. Students will be able to analyze the costs and benefits of alternate strategies for producing social goods. 4. Students will be able to analyze market power issues, and the implications of alternate policies for addressing these issues. 5. Students will be able to write a paper with a clear organizational structure and professional writing style.
