HGPS 415 - Vietnam: Conflict and Consequences (3 units) The Vietnam conflict as a historical case study for various causes of violence and aggression, the human costs of war, and peaceful direct action. (General Capstone course.)
Prerequisite(s): CH 201 or CH 202 or CH 203 ; ENG 102 ; junior or senior standing.
Units of Lecture: 3 General Capstone Course Offered Every Fall, Spring, and Summer Student Learning Outcomes (if available): Upon completion of this course: 1. Students will be able to critically analyze different types of primary and secondary materials including novels, autobiographical accounts, select government records, scholarly articles, internet sources, maps, music, and photographic images. 2. Students will be able to effectively compose written, oral, and multimedia texts for a variety of scholarly, professional, and creative purposes. 3. Students will be able to demonstrate understanding of the ethical principles, to ultimately be able to identify and explain the conditions for ethical decision-making. 4. Students will be able to evaluate and apply methods to resolve conflict. 5. Students will be able to synthesize and integrate the themes of “war, violence, and peace” in relationship to the Vietnam War from a variety of perspectives on an individual and global level.
