Upon completion of this course:
1. Students will be able to listen critically to specific musical examples through actively engaged listening.
2. Students will be able to analyze scores from a historical perspective.
3. Students will be able to articulate how music functions in culture.
4. Students will be able to articulate the ways in which western “art” music has helped shape (and in turn is shaped by) individual and communal senses of self and others.
5. Students will be able to write about music critically, analytically, and historically.
